A roll-in shower built around a toilet that could not move
The waste stack sat in the party wall, which fixed the toilet centre line permanently. Everything else in the room had to be designed around that one immovable point.

The room, either side of the work
- 8 x 9 ft villa bathroom with a linen closet eating the only turnable corner.
- Toilet centre line at 14 in from the side wall, too tight for a bar to be reachable.
- Tub alcove on the exterior wall, 15 in step-over.
- 30 in door with an inward swing.
- Linen closet removed, releasing a full 60 in turning circle in the centre of the room.
- Toilet stayed on its stack but the side wall was furred out 3 in to bring the centre line to 17 in.
- 36 x 60 in roll-in shower on the old tub footprint with a 36 in clear opening and no door.
- 42 in side bar and 36 in rear bar, both into new 2x10 flat blocking.
- Door widened to 32 in clear, swing reversed into the hallway.
- Wall-hung lavatory at 34 in with 27 in knee clearance and insulated drain lines.
